Titanic Day 2nd Class Aspen & Ivy

2nd Class stepped back in time for our very own Titanic Day, and what an unforgettable experience it was! From the moment the children arrived this morning, they fully embraced their roles as passengers aboard the RMS Titanic. Each child received their own boarding ticket and was randomly allocated a passenger class, adding an extra layer of excitement and realism to the day. Throughout the day, we remained in character as we explored every aspect of the Titanic. The children learned about how the ship was built, the incredible scale of its design, and the luxurious rooms and interiors that made it so famous. We examined original menus from onboard the ship, discussed the logistics of life at sea, and compared the experiences of passengers travelling in different classes. We also explored the personal stories behind the Titanic disaster, including the story of Eva Hart and the powerful survivor testimonies that have helped us understand what happened on that tragic night. The children engaged in thoughtful discussions about who may have been responsible for the sinking and considered the many factors that contributed to the disaster. One of the most special parts of the day was seeing how completely immersed the children became in the experience. They loved remaining in character throughout the day and truly felt as though they were part of history. The excitement, curiosity, and empathy shown by the class was incredible to see. Titanic Day was not only a fantastic opportunity for learning across History, Drama, Literacy, and Geography, but also a chance for the children to create memories together that will be treasured for years to come. It was a truly wonderful day in 2nd Class!

STEM Workshops in Action! 🤖🔧

Our STEM workshops this week were full of excitement, creativity, and hands-on learning! Pupils from Senior Infants to 3rd Class explored, experimented, and solved problems in a fun, interactive environment led by the Clever Cogs team. They had a fantastic time programming cars, building marble-powered machines, and exploring STEM toys, all while developing hands-on skills and verbal reasoning. It was an amazing engineering experience, and everyone had a blast discovering the world of robots, machines, and creative problem-solving!

Seachtain na Gaeilge 🍀

We had a fantastic week celebrating Seachtain na Gaeilge! Ciorcail Comhrá took place throughout the school, with lots of fun, laughter, and great Irish being spoken. Pupils enjoyed working together, building confidence, and using the language in a natural way. A big thank you to everyone who took part – go raibh maith agaibh!💚

Creative Workshop Fun 🌿🎨

Senior Infant’s Culture Day

As part of Diversity Week, Senior Infants Aspen and Ivy invited the parents in and presented projects they had made about culture from all the countries around the world that are represented in our classes. We then tasted traditional dishes from all these places. It was such a fun day and we thank Ms. Padron and her student helpers for organising it!

Jump into January with Junior Infants Aspen

Junior Infants Aspen have been working really hard to learn their phonics. We have now completed the first three sound sets. We played a matching game which was trickier than it looked but we had lots of fun! Our 6th class buddies came to visit us and we made some dinosaur name art. Our buddies were able to help us with some cutting and counting the letters in our names. Last month our theme was Éadaí and we really enjoyed integrating our Aistear role play materials into our Gaeilge lesson.

Arriving back to Aspen

“Junior Infants Aspen have settled back into school after the Christmas Holidays! Our theme this month is Clothing and Weather. We have made some cosy winter hats, exploring materials and their textures, using cotton wool for our fluffy bobble hats. Our Winter snowmen were great fun to make too as we used printing techniques for the snow and explored ‘buttons’ for our fabric and fibre. Aistear is, by far our favourite part of the day – this week we’ve been using playdough, lego for construction and the clothes’ shop/laundrette for role play. Happy New Year everyone!” Rachel Flynn – JI Aspen
