. Great workshops had with Mary Barber. She gave an informative history lesson on the famine. She then showed us how to crochet. We built houses using lego and cardboard.
Celebrating Peer Learning, Creativity & Community! 🤝🎉✨
6th Class had a great morning celebrating the end of their “Peer to Peer Learning” workshops with Temple Carrig as part of the “Creative Clusters Programme” and the “It Takes a Village” initiative. 6th Class from Educate Together also attended the workshops. Their principal, Helen McClelland, and teacher, Fiona Prunty, accompanied them today so that we could all celebrate together. Unfortunately, none of the TY students were available, but they sent us a lovely video with feedback and best wishes. Thank you very much to all the TY students and their teacher, Susan Andrews, for all their advice and support.
6th Class Cedar Celebrate ‘Write a Book’ Success! ✨
6th Class Cedar are delighted to celebrate their ‘Write a Book’ Competition achievements. Nina was the overall winner, with Ellie, Rachel and Gabriel all receiving Highly Commended awards. Congratulations to everyone for taking part and producing such fantastic work!
House Team Posters Unveiled at Assembly 🏅🎨
Our House Team posters were presented to the school at assembly this morning. Next week, all children in the school will be allocated to a House Team. We are excited to begin this new whole-school initiative together!
Inspired by Leonardo Da Vinci 🎨🖌️
6th Class Cedar spent the week researching the artist, inventor and mathematician Leonardo da Vinci. They recreated their own versions of the Mona Lisa and various other paintings and sketches, bringing his work to life in their own unique way. Today, they confidently presented their findings to the class, showcasing all they had learned.
Voices of Wellbeing
6th class students recently participated in peer-to-peer learning sessions on digital wellbeing alongside the TY students from Temple Carrig. Artist Hazel Hurley captured the essence of these discussions and lessons by listening closely and transforming what she heard into a unique and expressive piece of artwork.

Exploring the “World of Gases” – A Science Show to Remember!💨
4th, 5th, and 6th classes were treated to an incredible Science Show, “World of Gases”. Kieran from BOC (A Linde Company) demonstrated contraction, expansion, changes of state of gases, and the fire triangle, including a thrilling liquid nitrogen experiment at -196°C. It was both entertaining and educational, sparking curiosity and imagination among our budding chemists and engineers!
A School Full of Stories 📚✨
From witches and wizards to superheroes, animals and beloved characters, today St. Patrick’s was bursting with imagination for World Book Day! Children across the school celebrated their love of reading through costumes, quizzes, buddy reading, art activities and sharing their favourite stories together. A wonderful reminder that books can take us anywhere!

Science Fun Across the School! 🔬✨
This week, 5th Class invited students from across the school to attend in preparation for their big Science Blast next Monday in the RDS! They’ve been working so hard on their projects, and everyone had a fantastic time exploring and learning. Feedback from our visiting classes: Senior Infants Willow were absolutely blown away by the experiments they saw, they felt truly inspired! 1st Class Chestnut loved visiting 5th Class and had a wonderful time learning new science facts. 3rd Class Ash enjoyed discovering creative experiments during Larch’s Science Presentation and asked lots of curious questions. 6th Class Cedar were very impressed by all the science projects on display. 6th Class Laurel loved learning about flight, photosynthesis, and more from 5th Class. A huge thank you to 5th Class for hosting such inspiring sessions, and good luck with the Science Blast next Monday — we can’t wait to see all your amazing projects in the RDS! 🌱🧪🌼🍃✈️🌿🌟🔬
6th Class Cedar Takes Off with 5th Class Larch’s Aviation Expertise! ✈️🚀
6th Class Cedar, had a great time learning all about aviation! We were all super impressed by 5th class Larch’s knowledge. The flying of the aeroplanes at the end was a great way to end.
Safer Internet Day – 10th February 💻🌍
At St. Patrick’s NS, children’s safety and wellbeing are at the heart of all we do. Safer Internet Day gave us a wonderful opportunity to shine a spotlight on digital wellbeing across the school. Using our It Takes a Village approach, alongside the TY Digital Passport Programme, our Buddy System and the STEM curriculum, pupils worked collaboratively to learn about, reflect on and raise awareness of strategies for staying safe online. Through age-appropriate books, videos and buddy discussions, children were supported in a safe and inclusive environment where they felt heard, valued and reassured that their safety is always our top priority. Our senior students played a key role in leading the learning throughout the day. Both 6th classes visited Temple Carrig, where they explored the merits and disadvantages of AI, engaging in thoughtful discussion about the opportunities and challenges of this rapidly evolving technology. Once back at school, our 6th class students teamed up with their Junior Infant buddies to share important online safety messages. They created colourful posters about staying safe on the internet and spent time chatting and colouring together, discussing the importance of protecting personal information online. Meanwhile, 5th class organised engaging activities with their Senior Infant buddies, helping them to understand key internet safety messages in a fun, supportive and age-appropriate way. We had great fun playing the Traffic Light Game, using red, yellow and green cards to decide if different online situations were safe, unsafe or unsure. We also tried some role play, acting out scenarios and showing what we would do to stay safe online. It was a fantastic whole-school effort, with children learning from one another and working together to promote a safer online world for everyone.
Irish Dancing Workshops 💚🕺
Children recently enjoyed fantastic Irish dancing workshops, they had great fun learning new steps, practising their rhythm and building their confidence through movement. There was plenty of energy, smiles and toe-tapping throughout the sessions! A huge thank you to Irish Dancing teacher Niamh O’Donnell, for sharing her talent, enthusiasm and love of Irish dance with us. We are so grateful for such an enjoyable experience! 6th Class Shine in Junior Entrepreneur Programme 🌟
6th class could not have made us prouder last week! The classroom was buzzing with creativity, teamwork and excitement as students put the finishing touches to their Junior Entrepreneur Programme projects. The children worked tirelessly preparing every aspect of their businesses, from designing products and eye-catching posters to managing finances and perfecting their sales pitches. Each team then confidently presented their ideas to the dragons, impressing everyone with their professionalism, creativity and enthusiasm. We were blown away by the variety of products on offer. There was truly something for everyone, including handmade soaps, cards and decorations created using materials collected from the beach, sweet treats and refreshing smoothies, nourishing lip balms and decorative items and key rings The innovation and effort on display were outstanding, and the dragons certainly had a difficult job choosing between so many fantastic ideas! ✨ Coming Soon! ✨You’ll have the opportunity to support our young entrepreneurs at the Valentine Bake Sale on 13th February, where students will be selling their wonderful products. Voices, Skills & Teamwork! A brilliant morning of digital learning with TY students 🎙️👏
Both 6th classes enjoyed a lovely and very worthwhile morning in Temple Carrig with the Transition Year students and Ms Andrews. Being part of the “It Takes a Village” community is such a valuable experience for everyone involved.
The digital learning workshops have been extremely helpful, supporting our pupils as they navigate the online world. The TY students gave us a very warm welcome and were impressively prepared, with games and discussion questions ready for the children.
Following the workshop, some 6th class pupils stayed on with Ms Harper and Ms Gisler, where they were interviewed and had their voices recorded for a podcast, a fantastic opportunity!
The TY students were professional, engaging, and enthusiastic throughout. Well done to all involved, and thank you to Ms Andrews for organising such beneficial workshops for our children. 👏🎧💻

6th Class are designing eye-catching posters to encourage drivers to slow down and help keep our roads safe for everyone.
Transition Year Students Promote Safe and Balanced Use of Technology
Transition Year students from Temple Carrig visited 6th class and delivered a fantastic, well-prepared PowerPoint presentation. They spoke confidently to the whole class about how technology can be a great tool, as long as it’s used safely and in moderation.
They explained the difference between passive (watching, scrolling) and productive (learning, creating) use of technology, highlighting the importance of balance and time offline. The students also warned about pop-up adverts and reminded pupils that things online are not always what they seem.
Top Tips for Healthy Technology Use:
Follow the rules and check with parents before going online
Take regular breaks from your device
Switch off and enjoy fun offline activities
Use timers or screen-time apps to manage time online
Choose activities you enjoy and that make good use of your time
If something online worries you, tell a trusted adult

Mrs. Miller and eleven students represented St. Patrick’s NS at the Annual United Dioceses Service in Christ Church Cathedral, celebrating inclusion, acceptance, and Schools of Sanctuary 💛🎶 They even got to explore the cathedral’s historic crypt before catching the DART home!

6th Class Cedar developed their own maths games this week. They got their creative juices flowing and came up with fantastic ways to make the maths lessons extra enjoyable.
Exploring Our Coastline: 6th Class Investigates Erosion at Greystones North Beach
6th Class kicked off their SESE learning this September with an exciting hands-on field trip to Greystones North Beach. Working in pairs, students explored the coastal landscape, searching for real-life evidence of erosion and deposition. Equipped with clipboards and curiosity, they examined rock formations, sand patterns, and even collected data to bring back to the classroom. It was a fantastic opportunity to connect textbook learning with the natural world, and enjoy some fresh sea air while they were at it!
6th Class Cedar – Our Own Book of Kells!
6th Class Cedar have been exploring the magic and artistry of the Book of Kells. Inspired by its intricate designs, vibrant colours, and ancient history, the class set out to create their very own versions – and the results are absolutely stunning! Our handmade “Book of Kells” pages are now hanging with pride in our classroom, bringing a burst of colour and history to our walls. They are a testament to the talent, effort, and imagination of our brilliant 6th Class Cedar students. Well done to everyone involved – your work is both beautiful and inspiring!
Art Adventures for 5th Class Cedar
This week, Ashling McNamara came into 5th Cedar and did an amazing Art lesson, the children created beautiful casts made from plaster of Paris and from clay. Lisa Ferrie was also on hand to help the students. It was a great day and the children loved the lesson. Thanks so much to Ashling and Lisa.
