6th Class Field Trip Fun!
Both 6th classes enjoyed a special treat this week, a trip to Greystones RFC to watch the Leinster Rugby team train. An unforgettable day filled with excitement, inspiration… and plenty of autographs!
Draw Along with Clare Education Centre!
5th Class Laurel took part in a fun, easy, draw along session with Clare Education Centre via zoom. It was a basic introduction to study skills with a focus on visualisation and illustration of concepts. The lesson encouraged creativity and brought clarity to the note-taking process. See some examples of the children’s excellent creative abilities.

5th Class Laurel completed an Easter Egg Hunt with their buddies which was lots of fun! We hop everyone had a lovely Easter break and came back to school feeling refreshed! Beannachtaí na Cásca oraibh go léir.

As part of drama this week 5th class have been performing freeze frames based on the novel “Holes” that we have been reading in class. The children were in small groups and were given a scenario from the novel. They had to perform 3 different freeze frames to portray the scene, whilst the others had to guess which scene they were performing. We really enjoyed getting into character and using props in our classroom, such as chairs and brushes, to add to the realism and the storytelling.
Obstacle Course!
5th class Laurel helped their buddies from Ms. Glynn’s class today complete their first obstacle course. We will be doing this on two more mornings this week! The Infant classes are completing obstacle courses with their buddies, whilst the older classes are running laps of the pitch. We have been fundraising very hard in preparation for the Fun Run to raise money for the school’s new Astro pitch.
5th Class French Lessons
On Wednesday we had the pleasure of having Transition Year Students from Temple Carrig in to teach us some French. They went to a huge amount of effort and work to showcase the amazing work they have been doing in their school. They taught us about French food , French culture, we also learned to count in French and there was also a French Photo Booth. A really fun morning!
Inspirational Women
5th class Laurel completed project presentations based on inspirational women that have made an impact on the world, such as Rosa Parks, Golda Meir, Marie Curie and Coco Channel. After each group presented their PowerPoint presentations to the class, they then had to nominate one person from their group to take part in the ‘Hot Air Balloon Debate”. During the debate the children had to persuade the others, how their famous person has made an impact on the world and why they should be kept in the hot air balloon because of their importance to the world. World Autism Awareness Day
5th class Laurel took part in a “As I Am” online workshop. The workshop was part of As I Am’s broader initiatives for World Autism Month, which includes various events and resources aimed at fostering a greater understanding of the barriers that autistic people face every day. The session challenged the misconceptions, explored real-world solutions, and highlighted how to make our school environment more inclusive for all students. We learned that children communicate differently and that children who aren’t verbal, can communicate in other ways, such as through gestures, expressions, or assistive technology. Fact or Foolish Quiz!
For April Fool’s Day, 5th class Laurel completed a “Fact or Foolish Quiz”. There were 6 rounds with different true or false questions that the children had to work out in their groups. It was great fun!
Engineers Week: 5th Class
5th class Laurel & Cedar had the pleasure of meeting four engineers David, Allison, Sinead and Adam. It was a really informative discussion, where they talked to us about their individual jobs and what it is they like about being an engineer and why they decided to become engineers. After the discussion, we then got to complete an engineering activity. In small groups we got to make cars powered by balloon air. We had lots of fun!

5th class Laurel helped their buddies (Ms Glynn’s Senior Infants) with some beautiful arts and crafts for St Patrick’s Day celebrations☘️. The 5th class students helped draw the shamrock whilst the senior infants cut the shamrock out. Some great teamwork going on! Lá Fhéile Pádraig sona dhaoibh go léir!
5th & 6th Class: Beauty & the Beast
5th & 6th classes were invited to St. David’s Secondary School to watch their musical ‘Beauty and the Beast’. An amazing production by their TY students. Our students were really impressed by the acting and the amount of work that went into this performance. It was really exciting also to see their secondary school and to get a taste of what life after primary school might look like.
What is Neurodiversity and why does it matter?
5th Class Laurel have been learning about neurodiversity this week, in keeping with the theme of the month ‘Diversity and Inclusion’. What is “neurodiversity”? Neurodiversity means that we are all different in how we think, feel, and learn, because our brains process information differently. The word neurodiversity has two parts, which can help you to remember what it means. Neuro refers to your brain. Like “neuron”, a word for the cells in your brain. Diversity means differences. Your whole class is diverse, not just in the way you look or what you enjoy doing, but also in the way your brains work and how you think, feel, and learn. The class then completed an activity where they listened to the same teacher instructions but each student’s final picture turned out different and unique, showing how our minds interpret things in their own creative way!
Passion Projects
Today, 5th class Laurel completed their passion project presentations. The children had the fantastic opportunity to showcase their hard work and creativity to the other 5th class Cedar. Each pair/individual proudly presented their projects, explaining their ideas and what they learned along the way. It was wonderful to see the enthusiasm and confidence as they shared their work, answered questions, and celebrated each other’s efforts. Science Experiment 5th Class Laurel
5th Class Laurel investigated how materials may be used in constructions. Small groups of 4 had to make 3D structures using marshmallows and spaghetti sticks. They then recorded their structures and evaluated them using the 3’s to see if they were 1. Stable, 2. Secure and 3. Stiff.
CNY: 5th Class Laurel
In celebration of Chinese New Year 5th Class Laurel read the story about the “White Snake Lady”. The Legend of the White Snake, tells the story of a man, Xu Xian, who falls in love with a female snake, Bai Suzhen. The class really enjoyed reading about the snake lady and they then wrote about what they thought might happen next.
Learning Through Art
