Passion Projects in 5th Class Elm! 🎤

5th class have been working very hard on their passion projects over the past few weeks, exploring topics that genuinely interest them and developing their research and presentation skills. This week, they began presenting their projects to the class, and it has been fantastic to see the variety and depth of learning. From discovering the life and achievements of Alexander the Great, learning about Concussions, to exploring the history and impact of the typewriter, each presentation has taught us something new. We have learned so much from one another, and it has been a great way to share knowledge and celebrate everyone’s individual interests.

Story Time with Our Senior Infant Buddies! 📚✨

Lighting Up Learning in 5th Class Elm! 💡

Today in Science, 5th class Elm explored series circuits and learned how electricity travels through a circuit. We discussed how a series circuit has only one path for the electric charges to follow, similar to travelling on a road with no alternative route. The children discovered that if one bulb in a series circuit stops working, the whole circuit is broken and all of the lights go out. They discussed how electric charges move from the positive terminal of the battery to the negative terminal. The children showed great curiosity and engagement while sharing their ideas and making connections to real-life examples.

Their curiosity, enthusiasm, and scientific thinking have been wonderful to see throughout the investigations.

Bird Feeder Making with 5th Class 🐦

This afternoon we were making bird feeders. We were making them out of willow branches. Some kids brought their bird feeders home and others put them in the school garden. We wet the branches, so they don’t snap and we twisted and decorated them into beautiful bird feeders. Huge thank you to Kelly from Heritage in Schools who showed us how to make them. We enjoyed it so much and now you could make them at home. Keep an eye out for our bird feeders hanging from trees in school! It was a fun, hands-on afternoon and we loved learning a new skill while helping the birds in our area. We are very proud of our creations and can’t wait to see lots of birds visiting them!
